{"id":6439,"date":"2016-08-16T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/statescoop.scpnewsgrp.com\/startup-incubator-opens-applications-for-mentoring-program\/"},"modified":"2021-09-03T14:20:50","modified_gmt":"2021-09-03T18:20:50","slug":"startup-incubator-opens-applications-for-mentoring-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scoopmedia-develop.go-vip.net\/statescoop\/startup-incubator-opens-applications-for-mentoring-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Startup incubator opens applications for mentoring program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An accelerator program is offering smart-city-focused\u00a0startups\u00a0the chance to receive seed\u00a0funding and\u00a0mentoring services\u00a0to build their businesses.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/urban-x.com\">Urban-X Cohort 2 Accelerator Program<\/a>\u00a0just\u00a0opened a new round of applications to\u00a0provide\u00a0fledgling businesses\u00a0with\u00a0$60,000\u00a0in seed capital investment\u00a0and a 14-week, hands-on mentoring program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUrban-X is looking for pre-seed startups, founders, and risk-takers working on technology for intelligent cities, urban hyper-growth, and society-scale challenges,\u201d\u00a0according to\u00a0an e-newsletter from\u00a0the National Institute of Standards\u00a0and Technology and Global City Team Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>During the program, the selected startups will work within Urban-X\u2019s innovation lab in Brooklyn, where in-house designers and engineers will help them develop their product. They&#8217;ll receive access to software legal services, and have\u00a0the opportunity visit the workspace of the automobile company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miniusa.com\/\">Mini<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Munich and the hardware investment company\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hax.co\/\">HAX<\/a> in China\u00a0\u2013 the two program sponsors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.us-ignite.org\/globalcityteams\/about\/\">Global City Teams Challenge<\/a>, a NIST-supported\u00a0initiative\u00a0to develop new Internet of Things technologies\u00a0cities can\u00a0use, is also working closely with the program, according to an email newsletter from the competition.<\/p>\n<p><em>[Read more: <a href=\"https:\/\/scoopmedia-develop.go-vip.net\/statescoop\/wearables-data-analytics-projects-take-center-stage-at-global-city-teams-challenge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wearables, data analytics projects take center stage at Global City Teams Challenge<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/scoopmedia-develop.go-vip.net\/statescoop\/wearables-data-analytics-projects-take-center-stage-at-global-city-teams-challenge\"><\/a>]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is the second Urban-X cohort. Last year, the company selected nine teams, including\u00a0a\u00a0company developing a\u00a0charging infrastructure for commercial drones and another creating a special\u00a0analytics platform.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must fill out a 17-question application by Sept. 6, and include\u00a0descriptions of their company and a short video pitch.
